B · Shipping terms

Main carriage typically paid by the buyer. Sea only. Seller loads on board; buyer typically pays ocean freight and destination costs.

Incoterms allocate responsibility; they are not a freight-rate formula and don't change what a carrier charges.

How the estimate is calculated

CBM and volume
Cubic metres = length × width × height (m) × quantity. Measure the outer dimensions of the packed cargo, including pallets.
Gross weight
Use the weight of goods plus all packaging, pallets and dunnage. Carriers bill and load-plan on gross weight.
Choosing a container
Typical usable volume is 80–90% of a container's internal capacity because of carton sizes, stacking limits and door clearance. Fit based only on CBM is not guaranteed — check a load plan.
What usually isn't included
Origin and destination terminal handling, documentation, customs clearance, duties and taxes, inland haulage and peak or fuel surcharges are often quoted separately.

Frequently asked questions

How is air freight chargeable weight calculated?

Chargeable weight is the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ divisor (commonly 6,000 for air cargo). Many carriers then round up to the next 0.5 kg.

Why do express couriers use a different divisor?

Couriers commonly use 5,000 cm³/kg, which makes bulky parcels heavier for billing. Divisors, minimum weights and rounding vary by courier and service, so check your account terms.

What is a revenue ton (RT) in LCL shipping?

LCL is usually charged per revenue ton: the greater of volume in m³ and weight in metric tons (1,000 kg = 1 RT). Most consolidators apply a minimum of 1 RT.

When is FCL cheaper than LCL?

Compare the full-container total with the LCL total. The break-even volume is (FCL total − LCL fixed charges) ÷ LCL rate per RT. It depends on the real rates for your lane and is not a container loading limit.

Are these prices real quotes?

No. Results are estimates. Each price is labeled with its source — market estimate, reference rate or your own rate. Surcharges, duties, taxes and local charges may not be included. Request a quotation for a bookable price.

Do Incoterms change the freight rate?

Incoterms decide who pays and carries risk for each leg, not how a carrier prices freight. The estimator shows which party typically pays the main carriage under the selected term.

Estimates only — not a quotation, booking or guarantee of space. Sponsored placements never affect calculations or rankings.
