Formula
Scrap = Input − Good output
Scrap % = Scrap ÷ Input × 100
Yield % = Good output ÷ Input × 100
Assumptions & limits
- Input and output are in the same unit (e.g. kg).
- Scrap % is measured against input. Some plants report against output — that figure would be higher.
Worked example
Scrap = 60. Scrap rate = 60 ÷ 1000 = 6%. Yield = 94%.
